Projects

The Projects module is used to define and track special projects, assignments, or goals that are not part of the role description.

Managers occasionally have something come up that isn’t part of someone’s role description, something that may last a day to a couple of months to complete.

It’s a great opportunity to give someone who is showing higher-level potential the opportunity to do something out of the ordinary.

MANAGEABLE Template

Projects module

We use a specific template to help managers clearly define the project.

Title: What are you asking the person to do?
Context: Why does this need to be accomplished?
Quantity: How many do you need?
Quality: What criteria will be used to judge the deliverable?
By When: When is it due?
Resources: What additional resources, if any, will be provided?

Many special projects are not complicated and won’t take much time. Other times, the assignment could involve multiple organizational functions, maybe requiring a cross-functional team, and take 6-12 months to complete. Regardless, our template helps managers define expectations clearly.

Progress Tracking

Managers use 1:1 coaching sessions to see how their employees are progressing special projects.

Are they Meeting, Exceeding or Not Meeting expectations? Everything on schedule and within budget? Do we need to make adjustments? Nobody likes surprises, so employees are instructed to inform their manager when they begin to feel as if they will not be able to complete the project.

Project Completion

Special projects/assignments are included in the annual review. Whether completed or in-progress, this is work that team members have been focusing on, and reviews provide managers an opportunity to recognize their individual contributions.
